An Inventive Retelling of a Fairy Tale

Written in the Stars Series by Brittany Holland

Contemporary Romance

Happy Ever Never (Book 1)

I received a free copy of this book. I decided to review it because I like it.

Happy Ever Never

Overall Rating: 3.5 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Willow and Piers had promised to be together forever starting with a blood bond when they were nine. But broken promises and people determined to keep them apart cause Willow to flee. After a tragedy brings Piers back into Willow’s life, secrets are revealed and people’s motives are made clear. Will the last wishes of a loved one help bring Willow and Piers back together again or have the secrets ruined their young love?

This is a story based around the fairytale of Peter Pan. It’s not a simple retelling, which I enjoy. Piers and Willow are both likeable characters. They are sympathetic and their shared past makes their love story sweet and believable. I’m looking forward to the other books in the series, especially if they are based on the secondary characters who make up the Lost Boys group.

I did have some problems with this book, though. The main problem I had was it felt very disjointed. There are parts where the writing is smooth and the dialogue is realistic. But there are other parts where I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a different story, or a story where I missed some details.

Despite that, I had a fun time reading the book. It’s sweet and it made me feel good. I do want to say that the summary on Amazon did not make sense to me after finishing the book. So, if the summary puts you off, I think you should see if the summary I wrote above is more inline with your interests.

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $2.99)
I don’t think I’d buy it, but I do think it’s worth a read through Kindle Unlimited or your local library. It’s a sweet book that will revive your belief in love.

Something else you might enjoy:
You have to read An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn. It’s the third book in one of my favorite series of all time, the Bridgertons. It’s a take on the Cinderella story and you don’t have to read the entire series to read this book.

Just one

Book Review

Forces of Nature Fairytale Series by M.A. Horst

Erotica

Lily (Book 2)

This is the second book in a six book series. I’ll be posting a review of each new book as it releases every Monday. You can read my review of the first book here. I received each book complimentary. I have voluntarily chosen to review the books, according to whether or not I like them.

Overall Rating: 3 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Lily, as the daughter of a rich and well-known couple, has always known that she must marry a Royal. But when her mother throws a wrench in her plans, Lily will do anything to stay in Hail Royal’s arms. Hail knew as soon as he saw Lily’s picture that she was the one for him. But when Hail finally meets Lily, he knows that there is more to Lily than meets the eye.

This is a very short, insta-love romance based loosely on fairytales. This storyline is a little darker than the first novel. They are standalones, so you do not have to read the first book to enjoy this one. The sex in this one gets a little more intense as does the drama.

I like this book much more than I did the first book. I thought the dialogue between the characters was a bit more natural. I also liked the backstory with Lily. It gave her character more depth, which I enjoyed.

I am even more eager to read the rest of the books in this series after reading this one. The third book is related to this one, and it definitely left me hungry for more!

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $0.99)

If you’re looking for a quick, sweet book, then this is a pretty good one for a dollar. I’d recommend it even more if you have Kindle Unlimited.

Poppy (Book 1)

This is the first book in a six book series. I’ll be posting a review of each new book as it releases every Monday for the next five weeks. I received each book complimentary. I have voluntarily chosen to review the books, according to whether or not I like them.

Overall Rating: 3 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Storm Royal is being forced to choose a bride from amongst six of the Flowers girl. He begins to loose hope until he spots Poppy amongst the crowd. Poppy knows she at the party to hear of an engagement, but she hates the superficial people she’s surrounded by. When she meets Storm she has no idea that she’s about to be swept off her feet, but Storm will have to fight if he wants to prove to Poppy that she’s the love of his life.

This is a very short, insta-love romance based loosely on fairytales. It’s a quick and easy read if you want something lighthearted and steamy. The sex is pretty conventional, but if you’re not into this type of romance then the whole thing will read as one big cliché. However, taken in the right spirit, this book is sweet and simple, much like Poppy.

It didn’t rate higher with me primarily because the dialogue is pretty robotic. The vernacular used makes it seem like its set in the past, but the details provided in the story make it seem like it’s suppose to be set in the present. All that makes the short book a little confusing.

But, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. It should be entertaining!

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $0.99)

If you’re looking for a quick, sweet book, then this is a pretty good one for a dollar. I’d recommend it even more if you have Kindle Unlimited. But if you want something with a bit of character development, then I’d pass.
