Title: Tempting Levi
Series: Cade Brothers #1
Author: Jules Barnard
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 6, 2017
Blurb
Off-limits never looked so tempting…problem is,
she’s my ex’s little sister.
Cade men are known for two things: arrogance and competitiveness. I grew up in
one of the wealthiest, most dysfunctional families in Lake Tahoe, and all I
wanted was to get the hell out. I thought I’d succeeded. Until an accident
burned up my firefighter ambitions. Then Dad died and left me in charge of the
family’s luxury resort.

Now I’ve got financially uptight advisors telling me what to do, and I need
someone I can trust working at my side. The perfect candidate walks through the
door in her pencil skirt, fitted white blouse, and that mass of wavy blond hair
she tries to contain.

The only problem? She’s my cheating ex’s younger sister.

Hell no. The last thing I need is another Wright female in my life.

But Emily’s good at the job, and she seems trustworthy. I should ignore the
desire I have for her. But after all I’ve lost, I’m tempted by what I can’t
have and ready to stoke the flame that smolders between us. As long as this
Wright sister doesn’t betray me the way the last one did.

Then again, I always liked playing with fire.

She climbed to her feet and leaned into him, tracing the
scar above his eye. “I like this scar.”
He chuckled and dropped his cheek into her hand. “Glad it
pleases someone. It didn’t feel too good when it happened.”
“I don’t like it because you were hurt. It’s just—it brought
you to me. And it reminds me that you’re not the same person I met years ago.
That we’ve both changed… However”—she grinned saucily—“scars are pretty
hot.”
He tugged at her top and kissed her collarbone, tickling her
with his lips, because the naughty man had quickly discovered a sensitive spot.
“My scar looks hot, does it?”
She laughed as he continued to pepper her skin with light
kisses. She lifted her shoulder in defense. “Very sexy.”
“Hmmm, don’t give me ideas, Emily, or I won’t let you go
home.”

BOOK REVIEW

I received a complementary copy of this novel and decided to review it because I honestly enjoyed it.

Overall Rating: 3.5 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Levi Cade is facing a challenge he’s never faced before. After his father dies and leaves him in charge of the family business, Levi has to don a suit rather than the firefighter’s gear that he planned to wear for the rest of his life. But a career ending injury has Levi giving this desk job a chance. His father has also left him a new assistant in the form of Emily, Levi’s ex-fiancé’s sister. He can respect her skills, but he’s going to stay away from her body… or at least, that’s his plan.

This book has a lot going for it. The writing is smooth, the dialogue is engaging, and the pace is brisk without being rushed. This is a solid start to a new series with all of the Cade brothers coming across the page as unique and interesting. It’s obvious that there are a few books from a previous series, as a couple of the guys are already paired up with their soul mates, but I think that’s great. I’ll look up those books and give them a try since I enjoyed the author’s writing style.

For me, the best part of this book is getting to see the insecurities each of the main characters struggle with. Emily feels like she’s always been in the shadow of her beautiful half sister, never realizing how attractive she is in her own right. Despite that, she is still a confident character in regards to her business credentials and her innovative ideas. I love that complexity. Likewise, Levi is a self-assured leader, but he struggles with his own feelings of inadequacy. He’s so concerned about doing the right thing that he often says the wrong thing. Each character is flawed and I love it.

Lastly, I really love how the novel is interesting and contains conflict without over the top drama. The storyline could have easily dissolved into an episode of Jerry Springer, but Jules Barnard takes it into a heartfelt and authentic direction instead. I think the resolution at the end of the novel is somewhat convenient, but developed in such a way that I’m happy with the way everything turned out.

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $0.99 special)
Yes, this is definitely worth buying at the low price of 99 cents. It’s a nice story that will definitely make you smile in the end.

Plight
[plahyt]
Noun: a difficult, or otherwise unfortunate
situation.
Verb: pledge or solemnly promise. Be engaged to be
married.
I promised
myself to a man. Well, technically, I promised myself to a boy. We were eight
years old. Neighbours. He gave me a Cheezel, pushed it onto my finger, and
asked me to marry him.
I ate the
Cheezel.
I also
said, “Yes” but that we’d have to wait until we were thirty.
It was my
thirtieth birthday last week and now he’s calling in that promise.
Seriously,
Elliot Parker is insane if he thinks
that an out of the blue private Facebook message stipulating the binding law of
an oral contractual agreement is going to seal our twenty-two-year bullshit
engagement.
Insane.
I wonder if
he really does look like his profile picture, though.

Overall Rating: 3.5 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Danielle Cunningham and Elliot Parker were childhood friends. Best friends in fact. The kind of friends who promise to marry each other when they turn 30 with cheese snacks as a ring. Now Danielle thinks Elliot’s crazy because he’s holding her to that promise even though they haven’t spoken to each other in years.

I really enjoyed this book. I found Elliot to be delightful and his love for Danielle authentic. Danielle is great too, but I think her backstory needs to be expanded a little. The resolution of the novel is somewhat complicated, emotionally, and I got a little confused. It made an otherwise satisfying ending less so.

I read this pretty much in one go. I laughed a lot, giggling, walking around with a silly smile on my face, as I read this book. It made me feel so good! I love books where the guy knows his mind and himself enough to know when he’s found love. It melts my heart every time!

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $2.99)

If you are feeling a little bit blue, need a pick-me-up, or want a book that’s going to make you giggle, then yes, you should 100% buy this book.

Dirty Thief Book Review & Release Blitz

Dirty Players by Tia Louise

Contemporary Romance

Dirty Thief (Book 4)

I received an early copy of this book and voluntarily wrote a review. Although this is book 4 in the series, it is a standalone novel.

Overall Rating: 3.5 (XXX)

Quick & Dirty summary: Ava Wilder is married to the King, and although she used to survive by stealing, she is dedicated to being the wife he needs. Rowan Tate is thankful he married the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen and he will stop at nothing to keep her, and his country, safe. But when Ava’s past begins to haunt her, and women she is connected to through tragedy wind up dead, she must work together with her husband to stop a killer.

This is the 4th book in a series and when I decided to read it, I had no idea that it was a part of a series or that the series was so long. While I could tell that there were backstories that I hadn’t read, I don’t think it detracted from my enjoyment of the novel. In fact, I really like that the story began with Ava and Rowan married. I love that it showed that even once you’re married, the adventure doesn’t end!

Overall this is a fun book. There is a bit of a murder mystery, but it isn’t too difficult to work out “who done it.” That being said, there is a bit of tragedy and suspense that adds some emotional depth to the book. This is layered with a lot of really hot sex scenes. What you get is a couple that seems to be tied to each other emotionally as well as physically, which is nice.

What I didn’t care for so much is how silly Ava acts toward the end. For a girl who spent her childhood in foster homes and on the streets, she doesn’t make the best decisions. There is also a kind of awkwardness in portraying Ava as a sweet, caring person. Tia Louise backs up her characterization of Ava as sweet with some great actions and descriptions, but they seem stilted to me. This might just be me and you won’t have any problems with it.

I think I would have had more of an investment in the novel had I read the entire series. As I mentioned, it’s not necessary to appreciate the book, but I think I would love the characters a bit more because I’d have spent more time with them. That’s the great thing about series!

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $2.99 Release Day Only)

If you’ve been following the series, then of course you need to buy it! But, if you haven’t read the other books, I’d hold off, even with the sale price. While it’s good as a standalone, I think it would be well worth the money to wait and read the other books in the series to further the fun.

Something else you might enjoy:

If you’d like to try a historical romance novel, try Christina Skye’s Come the Night. In this one, the hero is a highwayman, so it’s a nice little inversion of the thief theme.

Rowan
Moving my mouth, I devour her. She keeps pace with me, and while our bodies are wet and slippery, our mouths are inseparable. Lips move, tongues chase. I pull her full upper lip between my teeth, and she sucks my bottom lip into her mouth. We’re making out like teenagers, and I move closer, cupping her ass to pull her flush against me.
My knees bend, and her hand drops between us, grasping my erection and sliding up and down. I groan into her mouth, and her tongue slides along the seam of mine. Her hand moves faster, and I grip the back of her head, fisting her hair. She’s working me, and it feels fucking amazing.
“Ava,” I groan, breaking away, dropping my chin to kiss her shoulder.
She kisses my neck, just before I feel her teeth against my skin, just before she pulls it into her mouth. She’s sucking my neck, jacking me off, and fuck, I’m so close to coming.
My fingers tighten, and I pull her head back. “I need to be inside you.”
Dilated eyes heavy with desire meet mine. “Take me to bed.”
Holding her around the waist, I lift us both from the hot water, grabbing the white terry robe off the hook as we pass. I drape it around Ava’s shoulders before easing her back onto the enormous king-sized bed. She’s on her back, her head on the pillow, and I brace my hands at her sides. My eyes skim over her naked body, lightly pink from the water, scuffed from my beard. Then I lean down to consume her mouth again.
Her lips part, and our tongues stroke and taste. I’m ravenous for her. My frustration and tension once more finds release in most pleasurable way. Her fingers grip my arms, and I dip my tongue into her cherry-mint sweetness. I haven’t stopped kissing her since we entered the bath, but now I’m wanting another taste.
Moving down her body, I stop at her breasts, pulling one nipple into my mouth, circling my tongue, teasing her tip. Her back arches, and she moans. I kiss my way to the other side and pull another stiff peak between my lips, nipping and sucking. I want to mark her. I want to cover her creamy skin in blistering red marks of passion.
“You’re delicious,” I sigh, kissing the top of her ribs. Lavender oil scents her skin.
She laughs and pulls away. “Tickles!”
I smile as I continue to the center of her torso to circle my tongue around her navel before going lower. I kiss her hipbone, biting and sucking another red mark before settling down between her thighs. Holding her hips, I spread her open. A glance up, and I see her stomach rising and falling rapidly with her breaths. Anticipation is the strongest aphrodisiac.
Holding my lips just above her clit, I allow my breath to warm her body. I lightly brush my lips along the crease at the top of her thigh.
She squirms and sighs. “Rowan…”I love driving her crazy. I love keeping her happy. I want nothing more than Ava Wilder-Tate saying my name in that exact note of need and eagerness every time.

I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved
around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the
forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.
Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was
always there for me… Until he wasn’t.
Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there
for me and he never regretted it.
Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself.
Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.
And now he might be the only one I have left.

We’re

Bric is
still to my left, Quin isn’t here yet—if he’s coming at all—and Adley is in her

Everything

“Then he

“What’d you

“I sat
there on the couch for a while trying to figure out what happened.”
“What did
you come up with?” Bric is looking very intently at me. Like everything I’m
saying is critically important.
“He hate-fucked
me, that’s what I came up with, Bric!”
“Rochelle,”
Bric says, throwing me one of those Don’t overreact looks.
“I’m
serious. There’s no other explanation for it. He hate-fucked me. Revenge fuck.
Whatever you want to call it. That’s what happened last night.” I sigh and try
not to feel depressed and sad. “And then this morning I got out of bed to go
check on Adley when she woke up, and when I came back, he was gone.”
“Gone?”
Bric asks. “Where’d he go?”
“Just
left,” I say. “I texted him. Asked if he’d be here for breakfast. And he never
texted back.”
“He’s just
mad,” Bric says.
“I know.” I
huff. “He told me that last night too. He spelled it out very clearly. He was
worried about me. Sad about my leaving. But then when I came back—”
“Now he’s
just angry.”
“Right.”
“It’s a
pretty typical reaction,” Bric says.
“I realize
that. Which is why I’m not going to make a big deal about this. But I don’t
know if this is going to work, Bric. He might not want me. He might just want
to hurt me. Exactly the way I hurt him.”
“No,” Bric
says, like I’m being ridiculous.
“I’m not
being ridiculous,” I say. “Maybe he’s not out to hurt me. But he’s doing
something, Bric. He’s playing a game, but I’m pretty sure we’re not all playing
the same game.”
“He’s mad,
Rochelle. You have to expect that. He’s gonna come around.”
“What does
that mean? Come around? Do you really think he’s gonna fall back in love with
me the way he was? Because I don’t. I think he’s here for us. Me, you, and him together. And that’s all.”
Bric rubs
his hand across his scratchy jaw as he thinks this over, so I check on Adley.
She fell asleep in the car on the way over here and hasn’t woken up yet. Bric
is still thinking.
“I don’t
want an us, Bric.”
He looks me
in the eye and says. “I do. But I get it. And I’m fine with you and Quin
getting your little happy ending. But I’m telling you, Rochelle, he’s just
trying to protect himself right now and the best way to let him work that out
and ensure you two get back together is to have an us.”
“He said he
doesn’t trust me.”
“He has a
good reason,” Bric counters.
“I know
that,” I say, starting to get angry. “I understand that. But the whole point of
us doing this… game… or whatever it is, was so that you can help me figure this
out. I want him, Bric. You’re supposed to help me.”
But as soon
as the words come out of my mouth I realize how stupid that is. I trust no one
and I have very good reasons for that. I’ve learned over the course of my life
that people are selfish. People are out for themselves. People are liars. I
have a lot of experience in being lied to.
Elias
Bricman definitely fits all those assumptions I have about people. And then
some.

trying to protect himself right now and the best way to let him work that out
and ensure you two get back together is to have an us.”
“He said he
doesn’t trust me.”
“He has a
good reason,” Bric counters.
“I know
that,” I say, starting to get angry.
And then
some.

Release Date: April 3, 2017

Blurb
Arrogant.
Womanizer.
Sexy as hell.
These are all words that have been used to describe my best friend. They might be true, but to me, he’s just Cole Calloway. The one person who has always been there. Now it’s my turn to reciprocate. Coming off an injury, Cole needs me. I won’t let him down.
It’s easy to fall back into old habits with friends, but with Cole something is different. He’s different with me. The touches are gentler. His eyes linger on me. There’s something there that wasn’t before. My heart flutters just a little too much every time I look at him. What’s the worst that could happen if I stopped overthinking and just let go?
